Tipping & Gratuities

Tipping practices vary greatly among todays cruise lines, ranging from a required added service charge to no tipping at all. It is very important that you know the policy of the cruise line before you cruise so you can budget accordingly.

 

Azamara Club Cruises

Tips: Tips are included in the cruise fare, but additional tipping is at the passengers’ discretion.

Extra Charges: Spa gratuities are not included in the cruise fare. An 18 percent gratuity will be added to passengers’ onboard folios for spa services.
Carnival

Tips: Carnival automatically adds $12.00 per-person, per-day, gratuity to your onboard account, this does not apply to passengers younger than 2.

Extra Charges: An automatic 15 percent gratuity is added to all bar bills.

Options: Passengers who want to adjust the amount of their gratuity in either direction can do so at the guest services desk.

 

Celebrity Cruises

Tips: Celebrity Cruises automatically adds a $12.00 per-person gratuity to your account. ($12.50 for Concierge Class and AquaClass cruisers). There is also a $3.50 per-person, per-day surcharge for your butler if you’re in a suite. Passengers who choose “Celebrity Select Dining” before their cruises are required to prepay gratuities (prior to boarding).

Extra Charges: An automatic 15 percent gratuity is added to all bar bills.

Options: If you wish to adjust the amount you pay, this can be done onboard at guest relations.

 

Cunard Line

Tips: Cunard charges $11.50 per person, per day, to your onboard account for passengers in Britannia accommodation and $13.50 for passengers in Grill Class accommodations. (Including all children).

Extra Charges: An automatic 15 percent gratuity is added to all bar bills.

Options: To adjust the amount of your automatic tips or to tip independently, see the purser’s office.

 

Crystal Cruises

Tips: Basic gratuities are included in the cruise fare. While not obligatory, additional gratuities are appreciated. However, they are entirely at the discretion of each individual passenger.

Extra Charges: An 18 percent gratuity for any salon and spa services rendered will be automatically charged to your onboard account.

 

Disney Cruise Line

Tips: Disney Cruise Line charges $12.00 per person, per day (adults and all children) to your onboard account.

Extra Charges: An automatic 15 percent gratuity is added to bar, beverage, wine and deck service.

Options: To adjust the amount of your automatic tips or to tip independently, see the purser’s office.  Tips can either be prepaid up to three days prior to the start of your voyage.

 

Holland America Line

Tips: Holland America automatically charges $11.50 per day to your onboard account (including all children). Passengers occupying suites will be charged $12 per day.

Extra Charges: An automatic 15 percent gratuity is added to all bar bills

Options: See the front desk if you wish to adjust your automatic gratuities.

 

Norwegian Cruise Line

Tips: NCL automatically charges $12 per day to your onboard account. There is no charge for children younger than 3.

Extra Charges: A 15 percent gratuity is added to bar bills, and 18 percent gratuity is added to spa services. NCL suggests that passengers who use concierge or butler service provide a gratuity in relation to the services rendered.

Options: If you wish to adjust the charges, you must contact the onboard reception desk.

 

Oceania Cruises

Tips: Oceania automatically adds a $15 per-day gratuity to each passenger’s shipboard account (any age). An additional $7 per passenger, per day, will be added for passengers occupying Penthouse, Oceania, Vista or Owner’s suites where butler service is provided.

Extra Charges: An 18 percent gratuity is added to all bar and spa bills, as well as dinner at specialty restaurant La Reserve.

Options: Passengers may adjust gratuities while onboard at their discretion at the guest services desk.

 

Princess Cruises

Tips:  Princess Cruises adds $11.50 per day to your onboard account. Passengers in suites or mini-suites will be charged $12 per day. (Including all children) The amount goes for children and adults, and it can be prepaid up to six days prior to the start of your cruise.

Extra Charges: A 15 percent gratuity is automatically added to all bar bills.

Options: You can adjust your automatic gratuities upward or downward, or eliminate them altogether, at the purser’s office.

 

Royal Caribbean International

Tips: Royal Caribbean automatically adds $12 per person ($14.25 for suite passengers), per day, to your onboard account. (Including all children) Passengers who opt for RCI’s  “My Time Dining” must prepay gratuities.

Extra Charges: A 15 percent gratuity is automatically added to all bar bills, including mini-bar, as well as salon and spa services.

Options: Passengers who believe they’ve received poor service may ask guest services to reduce or remove the automatic tips while on the ship.

 

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Tips: Tips are included in the cruise fare, additional tipping is not expected.

Extra Charges: None.

Options: Passengers who wish to give an additional tip can make a donation to the Crew Welfare Fund at the purser’s office.

 

Seabourn

Tips: On Seabourn tipping is neither required nor expected.

Extra Charges: None.

Options: Additional tipping is not expected.

 

SeaDream Yacht Club

Tips: All tips are included in the cruise fares.

Extra Charges: None.

Options: Additional tipping is not expected.

 

Silversea Cruises

Tips: Tips are included in the cruise fares.

Extra Charges: Gratuities for spa services are not included and are made at the passenger’s discretion.

Alternatives: Additional tipping is not expected.
